Current Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 Going Offline Soon in the US

Apple Watch 9 & Ultra 2 will be removed from the official Apple website on 12/21, and after Christmas Eve (12/24), Apple Stores will no longer carry them in-store.

We introduced Apple Watch 9 & Ultra 2 when Apple released them, but In what could be Apple’s most “short-lived” moment in history, the current US version of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 is set to be discontinued. Both models will be removed from the official Apple website on 12/21, and after Christmas Eve (12/24), Apple Stores will no longer carry them in-store.

This unexpected move comes amidst a prolonged patent dispute between Apple and medical technology company Masimo, primarily revolving around the Apple Watch SpO2 sensor, designed for blood oxygen level monitoring. The International Trade Commission (ITC) announced its ruling in October, upholding the decision made in January. Subsequently, the case was forwarded to the Biden administration for a 60-day presidential review, scheduled to conclude on December 25.

It’s crucial to note that any Apple Watch with the SpO2 sensor sold before December 25 will not be affected by today’s announcement. The ITC has also granted exceptions for services, repairs, or warranty claims on devices sold before December 25.

While President Biden has the authority to veto the ITC decision, Apple’s early announcement of the discontinuation indicates its preparedness for the worst-case scenario. If you’re a fan of the pink-hued Apple Watch 9 or Ultra 2 with blood oxygen level monitoring, now is the time to act!
